People have perspective, “World View” which is based on their past, their history.  This can be very self-limiting. In order to expand a person’s horizons, their perspective becomes an obstacle, or a tool, depending on how well you understand this. Put simply, in order to move someone upward from where they are, you must first understand who they are, and where they are coming from, and this is done by asking questions, leading questions. In a way, all questions are leading questions, because the person who is asking is leading, and the person who answers is following. A question is not just words, but also tone, volume, body language, and conviction.  Some of my favorite ways to start these questions are: Imagine that…what would you say then? What if I told you that…what would you say then? What if…what would you do then? What do you think about ….? How do you feel about…? My favorite question is this one: “Forget for a moment everything that you believe to be true: suppose that tomorrow it was revealed to you that what actually was true was this…how differently would you act then, what would you do differently?” By challenging someone to change for a moment their self-limiting assumptions, and consider another point of view as the truth, you allow them to experience a broader perspective. In fact, what you decide to believe is real to you! Ask a thousand people what is real truth, and you will get 1000 completely different answers.  The world you live in is largely created by your beliefs.  People get confused between cause and effect.  If you through a rock into still waters, you cause ripples.  If you cut someone, they bleed, and you become a cutter. Since what you do is up to you, what you believe is also up to you. The most important decision that you will ever make, is what you decide to believe, because that belief is what creates your world, your limitations, and your true potential.  Yet most people are simply at effect, what I call sheeple.  They believe whatever is fed to them, what others believe, and what is easy to believe, and...

What you Believe you Become When I was five, my father beat the hell out of my mother, and left, as I watched.  I never saw him again, he died overseas when I was seven.  So my mother moved five of us, 2 older sisters and two younger bothers and myself, to Livermore California to use her top secret clearance from Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico (white sands) to become a draftsman for Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, to support 5 children as a single mom. Since I had never been to school at six years old, I was enrolled in the first grade.  A little behind, they put me back into kindergarten.  There, for 60 days, I was put into the Sylvan learning program, and aloud to study at my own speed.  They wanted me to complete 1-2 learning modules per day.  I completed 6-7 modules per day, then, already reading and doing math at the third grade level, was accelerated and put into the second grade.  For the balance of my education, I was always in talented and gifted programs, and got very high marks.  We moved a great deal. My mother died of cancer in Berkeley California when I was 11, leaving five orphans.  We were split up, lived in foster homes and group homes, and I became an emancipated minor at 17. My life was hard, but I always knew what I was capable of, and that normal rules did not necessarily apply to me, making it possible for me to achieve many amazing things in my lifetime, in spite of my humble beginnings. My father was an Entrepreneur, founded the first FM radio station in Cloud Croft NM in a converted chicken coop – Maxwell Rothman – an electrical engineer who worked with Kernel Stapp on the first “rocket chairs” at the White Sands ( not really, was nuclear bomb research). My Mother, Sima Small Rothman, grew up in the Bronx, Jewish, spoke Yiddish, an artist. When I think back on my life, I realize that much of my belief structure comes from this background. This is not as hard as it appears to be.  Marketing in new media is like any other media marketing; first you must understand the playing field, the players, and the rules of the game: Content is free to the consumer, has always been free, and still is in radio, and on the internet. The quarter you once paid for yesterday’s news paid the paperboy, the news was always free, as it should be. Advertisers pay the media to reach the public – just as it has always been,  the ads you see in the header, on the side, in the right sidebar, popping up in some cases, represent advertising dollars being spent to reach an audience. There are Editors and Moderators – at one time, the Associated Press and their news-wire controlled almost all news.  As discussed in chapter one, that has changed.  With user generated, user-filtered content being consumed and becoming the main source for news and information, the power of moderation and what is called “influence” has been scattered to a much broader field of players, with varying degrees of power, based mostly on popularity.  These newly empowered players are much more creative, broad, and international in nature, controlled mostly by software algorithms which constantly aspire to do a better job of delivering up content (search results) on demand (Google, Youtube, Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest) Because New Media Moves so Quickly, unfettered by Gatekeepers, Academics and Bureaucrats, it is better, cleaner, more efficient, and harder to influence by behemoths.  From Oligarchs who have lost control of public opinion, to grandfathered-in institutions who have had to change up the vary way that they think about media, the race is on anew for supremacy. The cost of entry has dramatically decreased –  no longer do you need daddy’s money, a physical radio station or building, or even an office to get in the game – more an understanding of how this new marketplace works, and an audience who will follow your lead – instant popularity for an endless stream of new offerings has always ruled in entertainment and media.  People are voyeurs – if others like, +1, favorite, List, Bookmark, Favorite, Rate, Talk about, share, #...
