People have perspective, “World View” which is based on their past, their history. This can be very self-limiting.
In order to expand a person’s horizons, their perspective becomes an obstacle, or a tool, depending on how well you understand this.
Put simply, in order to move someone upward from where they are, you must first understand who they are, and where they are coming from, and this is done by asking questions, leading questions.
In a way, all questions are leading questions, because the person who is asking is leading, and the person who answers is following.
A question is not just words, but also tone, volume, body language, and conviction. Some of my favorite ways to start these questions are:
- Imagine that…what would you say then?
- What if I told you that…what would you say then?
- What if…what would you do then?
- What do you think about ….?
- How do you feel about…?
My favorite question is this one:
“Forget for a moment everything that you believe to be true: suppose that tomorrow it was revealed to you that what actually was true was this…how differently would you act then, what would you do differently?”
By challenging someone to change for a moment their self-limiting assumptions, and consider another point of view as the truth, you allow them to experience a broader perspective.
In fact, what you decide to believe is real to you!
Ask a thousand people what is real truth, and you will get 1000 completely different answers. The world you live in is largely created by your beliefs. People get confused between cause and effect. If you through a rock into still waters, you cause ripples. If you cut someone, they bleed, and you become a cutter.
Since what you do is up to you, what you believe is also up to you. The most important decision that you will ever make, is what you decide to believe, because that belief is what creates your world, your limitations, and your true potential. Yet most people are simply at effect, what I call sheeple. They believe whatever is fed to them, what others believe, and what is easy to believe, and they never acknowledge their own responsibility for these life changing beliefs.
If you decide to do so, you can decide what to believe, and therefor exercise your power to change not only your own life, but also the lives and the rest of the world which surround you. This can be done on purpose.
Begin, Believe, Achieve – BBA in life!
There is nothing wrong with following a great example. Being inspired to do great things is not really hard.
The real secret is that belief is power. If you do not believe it, you will not begin it; and if you do not begin, you will not achieve.
Which begs the question: how to begin? To answer this question, ask yourself this one: how can one man (or woman) move a mountain with a teaspoon? The answer is one teaspoon at a time. You begin. Others will see you and ask what you are doing. You will answer:
“I am going to move this mountain, it is in my way.”
Some will be inspired by your belief, and join in. The more who join in, the more real your dream will become to them. The more teaspoons, the more progress you will make. The more progress, the more real your vision will become, and the more people will join in. If your belief does not falter, and if you do not give up, and IF YOU BELIEVE, the mountain will move, because you believed it to be so.
Consider for a moment a premise: that most of your limits are self imposed; that what you cannot do is actually exactly what you do not believe that you can do.
Some great quotes from people who have achieved amazing things:
Walt Disney had a special way to determine if a project was worth doing. He would call together his most trusted friends, and ask them what they thought. If any of them ‘got it’, the idea was scrapped, because it was not big enough.
Jesus Christ said:
“Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, you feed a whole village…Follow me, I will make you fishers of men.”
Napoleon Hill said:
“Think and grow rich.”
Earl Nightingale said:
“That which you think, you become.”
Israeli Rothman said:
“Belief is the sum and total of all human power on earth.”
Zig Ziglar said:
“It is all about winning friends, and influencing people.”
Belief is Power
You can accomplish anything that you believe you can do. You can decide to believe anything. Therefore, you can do anything.
“Why do you come to me ‘lord lord’, yet you do not do what I say? All of these things that I do, you can do, and even more.” ~ Jesus Christ
And my paraphrase translation: “Because it is all controlled by my father, who created everything, and who is all powerful.”
If you would like to understand more about this kind of thinking, and the amazing potential that is within you, you may want to read my free e-book:
You can start any business, you can raise the money, if you do not have it, and you can succeed; if only you believe that you can.
